Abstract
Various embodiments relate to apparatuses and methods of using light transmission thought compressed living tissue to detect force. Transmission of light through living tissue such as a finger is affected by how much the tissue is compressed, for example by the finger being pressing on a surface. Light is introduced into the tissue, passes through the tissue, and a sensor receives the light exiting the tissue. The compression of the tissue can be determined using various characteristics of the received light, such as the light intensity, as determined based at least partly on sensor readings.
Claims24
An apparatus comprising:
- a light sensing device;
- and
- a processing device configured to determine an amount of force applied to matter by living tissue based on a change in one or more characteristics of light caused by transmissive properties of the living tissue as the light passes through the living tissue, wherein the change in the one or more characteristics of the light is determined after the light passes though the living tissue.
A computing system comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a memory coupled to the processor and storing instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the computing system to perform operations including:
- receiving data, that indicates a change in one or more characteristics of light caused by transmissive properties of living tissue as the light passes through the living tissue, from a light sensing device after the light sensing device received the light after the light passed through the living tissue;
- and
- determining an amount of force applied to matter by the living tissue based on the change in the one or more characteristics of the light caused by the transmissive properties of the living tissue.
