Abstract
The LED Light Fixture with Inter-LED Flow-Through Cooling dissipates heat by placing two or more LEDs against a heatsink, spacing the LEDs apart from each other. The spaces between the LEDs are open to the heatsink below, creating air inlets into the heatsink. Air flows into the air inlets, passes by the fins of the heatsink, and exits through the top, bottom, or sides of the heatsink, depending on the orientation of the device. The result is airflow through the fixture, cooling the heatsink and the LEDs.
Claims20
An LED light fixture comprising:
- a heatsink formed from a multiplicity of fins;
- an LED array formed from a plurality of individual LEDs;
- wherein every individual LED of the plurality of LEDs is separated from every adjacent individual LED by an air inlet;
- the LED array affixed to the heatsink, the air flow inlets within the LED array permitting the passage of air through the LED array and into the heatsink.
1 more element
An LED light fixture comprising:
- a heatsink;
- an LED array formed from a plurality of individual LEDs;
- the LED array thermally interfaced to the heatsink;
- each and every individual LED separated from each and every other individual LED, such that gaps are formed between every individual LED;
- the gaps between individual LEDs permitting the passage of air through the LED array and into the heatsink;
- whereby heat generated by each LED is conducted to the heatsink, the heatsink creating a convection air current that draws air into the LED light fixture through the gaps between individual LEDs, efficiently cooling the heatsink and thus the LED light fixture.
3 more elements
An LED light fixture comprising:
- a face;
- the face having LED sections that block the passage of air, and air inlet sections that permit the passage of air;
- every LED section separated from every other LED section by one or more air inlet sections;
- a heatsink;
- a plurality of LEDs placed between the face and the heatsink;
- the LEDs located beneath the LED sections of the faceplate;
- whereby the heat generated by an operating LED causes air to flow into the air inlet sections and through the heatsink, the air cooling the heatsink and thus cooling the operating LED.
