Abstract
Present embodiments are directed to a method that includes receiving inputs indicative of a property of a fracture present within a dynamic fracture network, assigning an orientation to each of the plurality of fractures, and receiving variables representative of the endpoints of the fracture between a first junction and a second junction of the plurality of junctions. The method also includes determining a linear system representing fluid flow within the fracture based on Navier-Stokes equations, as a function of the variables at the first junction and the second junction. The method further includes displaying a simulation representative of a fluid flow through the fracture based on the junction conditions via a display coupled to the processing component.
Claims19
A method, comprising:
- receiving inputs indicative of a property of a fracture present within a dynamic fracture network via a processing component, wherein the fracture network comprises a plurality of junctions and a plurality of fractures connecting the plurality of junctions;
- assigning an orientation to each of the plurality of fractures via the processing component;
- receiving, at the processing component, variables representative of the endpoints of the fracture between a first junction and a second junction of the plurality of junctions wherein the fracture fluidically connects the first junction and the second junction;
- determining a linear system of equations representing fluid flow within the fracture as a function of the variables at the first junction and the second junction, via the processing component;
- determining a fracture simulation representative of a fluid flow through the fracture based on the linear system of equations via a display coupled to the processing component;
- displaying the fracture simulation.
A tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable medium comprising machine-readable instructions to:
- receive variables representative of conditions at the endpoints of a fracture defined between a first junction and a second junction, wherein the fracture is located in a fracture network;
- determine a linear system of equations for modeling fluid flow conditions within the fracture based on the conditions at the endpoints;
- output a display simulation representative of a flow of proppant through the fracture based on the linear system of equations.
A fracture flow simulation system, comprising:
- an interface for receiving one or more properties of a fracture present within a dynamic fracture network;
- a first processing component and a memory device containing a set of instructions that, when executed by the first processing component, cause the first processing component to receive variables representative of a first initial aperture of a fracture located at a first junction and a second initial aperture of the fracture located at a second junction, wherein the fracture is defined between the first junction and the second junction, to determine a linear system of equations for modeling fluid flow within the fracture as a function of conditions at the first junction and the second junction;
- and
- a display coupled to the first processing component to display a simulation representative of a flow of proppant through the fracture based on solutions to the linear system of equations at the first junction and the second junction.
