The invention provides compounds of formula I, wherein R1, R2 and R3 have values defined in the specification and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof; or an optical isomer thereof; or a mixture of optical isomers, as well as compositions comprising such compounds and therapeutic methods that utilize such compounds and/or compositions.

A compound of formula I:
- wherein:
- R1 is hydrogen, mono-, di-, or tri-phosphate;
- R2 is furan-2-yl, 1H-pyrrol-2-yl, 1H-pyrrol-3-yl, 1H-pyrazol-4-yl, 1H-pyrazol-3-yl, 1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl, thiazol-2-yl, 1H-imidazol-4-yl, 1H-imidazol-2-yl, thiophen-2-yl, furan-3-yl, thiophen-3-yl, or benzofuran-2-yl;
- and
- R3 is hydrogen or alkyl;
- or
- a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof;
- or an optical isomer thereof;
- or a mixture of optical isomers.
