Medical device inserters and processes of inserting and using medical devices

An apparatus for inserting a medical device into a subject, comprising:

• a housing;
• the medical device;
• a rotor located within the housing, the rotor comprising a rotor follower projection;
• a torsion spring received within the rotor, wherein the torsion spring is adapted to cause rotation of the rotor;
• an inserter body adapted to advance the medical device, the inserter body comprising a slot with the rotor follower projection received within the slot, wherein rotation of the rotor and rotor follower projection causes the inserter body and medical device to slidably advance within the housing;
• a retractor body slidable within the housing;
• a needle coupled with the retractor body;
• and
• a compression spring, wherein expansion of the compression spring causes retraction of the retractor body and needle, and wherein a first end of the compression spring is in contact with the inserter body and a second end of the compression spring is in contact with the retractor body.
