Abstract
A high pressure flow device having a body defining a body bore and defining a recess in the body intersecting the body bore. A closure is joined to the body and forms a sealing surface. A seal is mounted to the body in the recess and configured to extend from the recess beyond the body bore to seal against the sealing surface formed by the closure.
Claims32
A valve, comprising:
- a body, comprising:
- a flow passage including an inlet passage and an outlet passage;
- and
- an enlarged internal chamber intersecting the flow passage at a first site and having a surface within which an endless first groove is formed, the first groove surrounding the flow passage at the first site and following a non-planar path;
- a rotatable plug element positioned within the chamber, having a fluid passage extending therethrough and an external surface, a portion of which is both alignable with the flow passage and congruent with a portion of the curved side of a cylinder;
- first and second insert elements positioned within the chamber and cooperating to at least partially surround the plug element, each insert element having a fluid opening extending therethrough;
- and
- a seal positioned within the first groove.

A valve, comprising:
- a body, comprising:
- a flow passage including an inlet passage and an outlet passage;
- and
- an enlarged internal chamber having a surface joining the flow passage that is complementary to the side of a cylinder or the side of a cone, the surface having an endless first groove formed therein that surrounds the flow passage and follows a non-planar path;
- a rotatable plug element positioned within the chamber and having a fluid passage extending therethrough;
- first and second insert elements positioned within the chamber and cooperating to at least partially surround the plug element, each insert element having a fluid opening extending therethrough;
- and
- a seal positioned within the first groove.

- an enlarged internal chamber intersecting the flow passage at a first site and having a surface within which an endless first groove is formed, the first groove surrounding the flow passage at the first site;
- a rotatable plug element positioned within the chamber and having a fluid passage extending therethrough;
- a plurality of insert elements positioned within the chamber and at least partially surrounding the plug element, each insert element having spaced inner and outer surfaces, a portion of the inner surface curving around the plug element;
- a seal positioned within the first groove;
- and wherein the first groove follows a non-planar path.

A valve comprising:
- a single-piece valve body characterized by:
- a flow passage including an inlet passage and an outlet passage and a central chamber intersecting the flow passage at a first site and a second site;
- wherein the central chamber has a surface complementary to a conical frustum, in which a first groove surrounds the flow passage at the first site and a second groove surrounds the flow passage at the second site;
- and
- wherein each of the first and second grooves is endless, and extends along a non-planar path formed within the surface;
- a rotatable plug positioned within the central chamber having a fluid passage extending therethrough;
- first and second insert elements positioned within the chamber and cooperating to at least partially surround the plug, each insert element having a fluid opening extending therethrough;
- a first seal positioned within the first groove;
- and
- a second seal positioned within the second groove.
