Method and apparatus for recovering synthetic oils from composite oil streams

A system for recovering synthetic oil from a feed stream comprising:

• a first stage comprising a plurality of distillation systems, each distillation system configured to remove compounds having a predetermined boiling point or molecular weight to separate at least a portion of non-synthetic oil constituents from a commingled stream to produce a partially purified synthetic oil stream and one or more contaminant streams;
• a solvent extraction stage comprising a solvent extraction system configured to receive the partially purified synthetic oil stream and to separate at least a portion of the synthetic oil from the partially purified synthetic oil by solvent extraction with solvent having less than 0.1 percent absorbed water to produce a synthetic oil stream and a second contaminant stream;
• and
• a dehydrator stage coupled to the solvent extraction stage, the dehydrator stage configured to generate solvent having less than 0.1 percent absorbed water for use in the solvent extraction system,
• wherein the dehydrator stage comprises a solvent separator configured to separate a first solvent stream from the synthetic oil stream, and/or a non-synthetic oil separator configured to separate second solvent stream from the second contaminant stream, and
• a dehydrator configured to receive a solvent comprising the first separated solvent stream and/or the second separated solvent and to reduce the amount of absorbed water in the solvent to less than 0.1 percent.
