Controller for increasing torque output of electric motors

A fluid moving system, comprising:

• a fluid mover configured to generate a fluid flow;
• a motor coupled to said fluid mover and configured to drive said fluid mover, said motor comprising:
• a stator comprising windings configured to be energized;
• and
• a rotor electromagnetically coupled to said stator and configured to turn relative thereto when said stator is energized;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• measure a speed at which said rotor turns,
• energize said stator to generate a first torque output at said rotor when the measured speed is below a first threshold, and
• energize said stator to generate a second torque output at said rotor when the measured speed is at least the first threshold, wherein the second torque output is greater than the first torque output.

A method for increasing a torque output of a motor, said method comprising:

• measuring a speed of the motor;
• energizing the motor to generate a first torque output when the measured speed is below a first threshold;
• when a boosted torque mode is activated for the motor, energizing the motor to generate a second torque output when the measured speed is at least the first threshold, wherein the second torque output is greater than the first torque output;
• and
• when the boosted torque mode is not activated for the motor, energizing the motor to generate the first torque output when the measured speed is at least the first threshold.
