Abstract
The present invention relates to the use of a 2,5-dihydroxybenzene derivative of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, solvate, isomer, or prodrug thereof for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of, inter alia, skin cancer.

A method for the treatment or prophylaxis of skin cancer, comprising administering to a subject in need thereof, an effective amount of compound represented by Formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein the compound of Formula (I) is:
- wherein:
- R1 is —(CH2)aY, wherein a is 0 and Y is —SO3H or —SO3−.X+;
- R9 and R9′ are independently selected from —OH and an alkylcarbonyloxy group —OR2 wherein R2 is acetyl, provided that at least one of R9 and R9′ is the alkylcarbonyloxy group;
- and
- X+ is an organic cation or an inorganic cation, such that the general charge of the compound is neutral.
