Abstract
A swing stool table kit has components to form a swing stool table. The swing stool table has a table top and pairs of swing stools on opposite sides of the table top. The swing stools swing out for a person to sit on and swing in for storage. The swing stools are made from light weight cast aluminum so that the overall weight of the kit is low. The table has footplates that extend out beyond the edge of the table but not beyond the swing stools when they are swung out so that the table will not tip over when heavier than average people all sit on one side of the table and no one sits on the other side of the table.
Claims12
A swing stool table kit adapted to be assembled into a swing stool table, wherein said kit comprises:
- a) a top assembly sub-kit comprising:
- i) one or more longitudinal boards;
- and
- ii) one or more vertical top posts adapted to be joined to said one or more longitudinal boards to form a table top, wherein said table top has a longitudinal centerline and a longitudinal lateral edge and wherein the distance from said longitudinal centerline to said longitudinal lateral edge is a lateral table top extension;
- and
- b) a base assembly sub-kit comprising:
- i) one or more swing stool sub-kits adapted to swing in underneath said table top and swing out laterally beyond said table top when said swing stool table is assembled, wherein said sub-kits for each of said one or more swing stools comprise:
- 1) a lateral bracket;
- 2) an arm adapted to be hingedly joined to said bracket;
- and
- 3) a horizontal seat having a center and wherein said horizontal seat is adapted to be joined to a distal end of said arm;
- ii) one or more vertical bottom posts comprising a horizontal lateral footplate, said horizontal lateral footplate has a lateral plate extension and a centerline, and wherein said lateral plate extension has a length that is the distance from said footplate centerline to said lateral edge of said horizontal footplate;
- and
- iii) one or more longitudinal support planks adapted to be joined to said one or more vertical bottom posts and provide a mount for said one or more swing stools
- wherein, when said kit is assembled to form said table:
- c) said one or more swing stools each have a lateral stool extension that has a length that is the horizontal distance from said table top longitudinal centerline to said center of said seat;
- d) said length of said lateral plate extension has is between said length of said lateral table top extension and said length of said lateral stool extension such that one or more persons each weighing not more than 181 kg can sit on all of said swing stools mounted on one side of said assembled table and not tip said assembled table over;
- and
- e) said arm is made from an aluminum alloy and said arm comprises:
- i) a horizontal top flange;
- ii) a horizontal bottom flange;
- iii) a vertical end flange at a proximal end of said arm;
- iv) a web extending down from said top flange and up from said bottom flange, said web forming a vertical opening between said top flange and said bottom flange;
- and
- v) a vertical fillet at said proximal end of said arm reinforcing said arm, wherein said fillet:
- 1) joins said vertical end flange to said web;
- and
- 2) comprises an open cavity such that said arm may be made of cast molten aluminum without forming shrinkage cavities.
A swing stool table comprising:
- a) a top assembly comprising:
- i) one or more horizontal longitudinal boards;
- and
- ii) one or more vertical top posts joined to said one or more horizontal longitudinal boards to form a table top, wherein said table top has a longitudinal centerline and a longitudinal lateral edge and wherein the distance from said longitudinal centerline to said longitudinal lateral edge is a lateral table top extension;
- and
- b) a base assembly comprising:
- i) one or more swing stools adapted to swing in underneath said table top and swing out beyond said table top, wherein each of said swing stools comprises:
- 1) a lateral bracket;
- 2) an arm hingedly joined to said bracket;
- and
- 3) a horizontal seat that has a center and wherein said horizontal seat is joined to a distal end of said arm;
- ii) one or more vertical bottom posts comprising a horizontal lateral foot plate, wherein said horizontal lateral foot plate has a lateral plate extension, and wherein said lateral plate extension has a length that is equal to being the horizontal distance from said longitudinal table centerline to a lateral edge of said horizontal foot plate;
- and
- iii) one or more longitudinal support planks joined to said one or more vertical bottom posts wherein said one or more longitudinal support planks is a mount for said one or more swing stools
- wherein:
- c) each of said swing stools has a lateral stool extension that has a length that is the horizontal distance from said longitudinal table centerline to said center of said seat of said swing stool when said arm is fully extended;
- d) said length of said lateral plate extension is between said length of said lateral table top extension and said length of said lateral stool extension such that one or more persons each weighing not more than 181 kg can sit on all of said swing stools on one side of said table and not tip said table over;
- and
- e) said arm is made from an aluminum alloy and said arm comprises:
- i) a horizontal top flange;
- ii) a horizontal bottom flange;
- iii) a vertical end flange at a proximal end of said arm;
- iv) a web extending down from said top flange and up from said bottom flange, said web forming a vertical opening between said top flange and said bottom flange;
- and
- v) a vertical fillet at said proximal end of said arm reinforcing said arm, wherein:
- 1) said fillet joins said vertical end flange to said web;
- and
- 2) said fillet comprises an open cavity such that said arm may be made of cast molten aluminum without forming shrinkage cavities.
