Customizable wearable electronic musical instruments having user-installable controller modules and synthesis modules

A customizable electronic musical instrument comprising:

• a mounting frame comprising a plurality of mounting openings, the mounting frame for securing a plurality of user-installable electronic musical modules;
• a plurality of user-installable electronic musical modules including at least one controller type module and at least one sound synthesis type module, wherein each of the plurality of electronic musical modules is interchangeably secured in one of the plurality of mounting openings of the mounting frame,
• wherein the at least one controller type module generates one or more real-time control signals responsive to user operation,
• wherein the at least one sound synthesis type of module generates audio signals in response to at least one of the one or more real-time control signals,
• an arrangement for attaching a strap, the strap enabling the customizable electronic musical instrument to be worn by a user;
• and
• at least one instrument interface configured to transmit outgoing electrical signals to an external system, the outgoing electrical signals responsive to at least one of the audio signals.
