Abstract
A method, station, and access point for transmitting in a wireless local area network. A method for operating the station includes receiving a beacon signal from an access point in the wireless local area network. The method also includes identifying from the beacon signal a target transmission time of a trigger frame to be transmitted by the access point for an uplink multi-user transmission. A method for operating the access point includes transmitting, to one or more stations in the wireless local area network, a beacon signal that indicates a target transmission time of a trigger frame to be transmitted by the access point for an uplink multi-user transmission.
Claims20
A station (STA) for transmitting in a wireless local area network (WLAN), the STA comprising:
- a transceiver configured to receive a beacon signal from an access point (AP) in the WLAN;
- a controller configured to identify, from the beacon signal, a target transmission time of a buffer status request message transmitted to a group of STAs by the AP for an uplink multi-user transmission;
- wherein the transceiver is further configured to:
- receive the buffer status request message transmitted to the group of STAs, based on the target transmission time, the buffer status request message including a request for a buffer status report from the group of STAs;
- send in response to the request, a message reporting buffer status information at the STA regarding data the STA has to transmit;
- wherein the message reporting the buffer status information of the STA includes buffer status per traffic identifier and buffer size;
- and
- receive a trigger frame indicating which STAs can initiate the uplink multi-user transmissions to the AP.
An access point (AP) for transmitting in a wireless local area network (WLAN), the AP comprising:
- a controller;
- a transceiver operably connected to the controller and configured to:
- transmit, to a group of STAs in the WLAN, a beacon signal that indicates a target transmission time of a buffer status request message to be transmitted by the AP for an uplink multi-user transmission;
- transmit the buffer status request message to the group of STAs based on the target transmission time, the buffer status request message including a request for a buffer status report;
- receive, in response to the request from at least one of the group of STAs, a message reporting buffer status information of the at least one STA of the group of STAs regarding data the at least one STA has to transmit;
- wherein the message reporting the buffer status information of the STA includes buffer status per traffic identifier and buffer size;
- and
- transmit a trigger frame indicating which STAs can initiate the uplink multi-user transmissions to the AP.
A method for operating a station (STA) in a wireless local area network (WLAN), the method comprising:
- receiving a beacon signal from an access point (AP) in the WLAN;
- identifying, from the beacon signal, a target transmission time of a buffer status request message transmitted to a group of STAs by the AP for an uplink multi-user transmission;
- receiving the buffer status request message transmitted to the group of STAs based on the target transmission time, the buffer status request message including a request for a buffer status report from the group of STAs;
- sending in response to the request, a message reporting buffer status information of the STA regarding data the STA has to transmit;
- wherein the message reporting the buffer status information of the STA includes buffer status per traffic identifier and buffer size;
- and
- receiving a trigger frame indicating which STAs can initiate the uplink multi-user transmissions to the AP.
