Polar transmitter with tunable matching network

A polar transmitter, comprising:

• an amplitude path configured to distribute an amplitude signal, the amplitude signal comprising an amplitude of a vector sum of an in-phase input signal and a quadrature-phase input signal;
• a phase path coupled to the amplitude path and comprising a phase modulator, the phase modulator being configured to phase-modulate a phase signal to generate a phase-modulated (PM) signal, and the phase signal comprising a phase of the vector sum of the in-phase input signal and the quadrature-phase input signal;
• a digital power amplifier (DPA) coupled to each of the amplitude path and the phase path and configured to amplify the PM signal based on the amplitude signal;
• a tunable matching network coupled to an output of the DPA and configured to adjust a load impedance of the DPA;
• and
• a controller coupled to the tunable matching network and configured to adjust the tunable matching network based on retrieving amplitude information and frequency information in a look-up table, the amplitude information being derived from the amplitude signal and the frequency information being derived from the PM signal, the look-up table comprising a plurality of optimal operation modes of the tunable matching network for combinations of the amplitude information and the frequency information.
