Abstract
Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to techniques and apparatus for improving power efficiency of a wireless device. The techniques may generally include determining a modulation scheme and transmit direction for transmission of a signal using a plurality of antennas, and controlling, separately, at least one amplifier for each of the plurality of antennas, based on the determined transmit direction and modulation scheme.

An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:
- a processing system configured to:
- determine a modulation scheme and transmit direction for transmission of a signal using a plurality of antennas;
- decide whether to set a gain of at least one amplifier for each of a plurality of antennas with different gains based on the modulation scheme;
- separately control the gain of the at least one amplifier for each of the plurality of antennas, based on the determined transmit direction and modulation scheme and further based on the decision of whether to set the gain of the at least one amplifier for each of the plurality of antennas with different gains;
- and
- an interface configured to output the signal for transmission using the plurality of antennas.
A method for wireless communication, comprising:
- determining a modulation scheme and transmit direction for transmission of a signal using a plurality of antennas;
- deciding whether to set a gain of at least one amplifier for each of a plurality of antennas with different gains based on the modulation scheme;
- controlling, separately, the gain of the at least one amplifier for each of the plurality of antennas, based on the determined transmit direction and modulation scheme and further based on the decision of whether to set the gain of the at least one amplifier for each of the plurality of antennas with different gains;
- and
- outputting the signal for transmission using the plurality of antennas.
An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:
- means for determining a modulation scheme and transmit direction for transmission of a signal using a plurality of antennas;
- means for deciding whether to set a gain of at least one amplifier for each of a plurality of antennas with different gains based on the modulation scheme;
- means for controlling, separately, the gain of the at least one amplifier for each of the plurality of antennas, based on the determined transmit direction and modulation scheme and further based on the decision of whether to set the gain of the at least one amplifier for each of the plurality of antennas with different gains;
- and
- means for outputting the signal for transmission using the plurality of antennas.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions executable to:
- determine a modulation scheme and transmit direction for transmission of a signal using a plurality of antennas;
- decide whether to set a gain of at least one amplifier for each of a plurality of antennas with different gains based on the modulation scheme;
- control, separately, the gain of the at least one amplifier for each of the plurality of antennas, based on the determined transmit direction and modulation scheme and further based on the decision of whether to set the gain of the at least one amplifier for each of the plurality of antennas with different gains;
- and
- output the signal for transmission using the plurality of antennas.
A wireless node, comprising:
- a plurality of antennas;
- and
- a processing system configured to:
- determine a modulation scheme and transmit direction for transmission of a signal using the plurality of antennas;
- and
- decide whether to set a gain of at least one amplifier for each of a plurality of antennas with different gains based on the modulation scheme;
- control, separately, the gain of the at least one amplifier for each of the plurality of antennas, based on the determined transmit direction and modulation scheme and further based on the decision of whether to set the gain of the at least one amplifier for each of the plurality of antennas with different gains;
- and
- output the signal for transmission using the plurality of antennas.
