On-demand codeset converter generation

A system comprising:

• a memory having computer-readable instructions;
• and
• one or more processors for executing the computer-readable instructions, the computer-readable instructions comprising:
• receiving a request for a codeset converter, wherein the codeset converter converts from a source codeset to a target codeset;
• determining that a mapping table applicable to the source codeset and the target codeset does not exist;
• generating the mapping table, responsive to the request for the codeset converter to convert from the source codeset to the target codeset, and responsive to determining that the mapping table does not exist, wherein the mapping table maps from the source codeset to the target codeset;
• selecting an applicable codeset converter compiler, from among a plurality of available codeset converter compilers, wherein the applicable codeset converter compiler is configured to compile the codeset converter that converts from the source codeset to the target codeset;
• compiling, with the applicable codeset converter compiler and based on the mapping table from the source codeset to the target codeset, the codeset converter responsive to the request, wherein the codeset converter converts from the source codeset to the target codeset;
• and
• returning the requested codeset converter in response to the request.

A computer-program product for compiling a codeset converter, the computer program product comprising a computer-readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith, the program instructions executable by a processor to cause the processor to perform a method comprising:

• receiving a request for a codeset converter, wherein the codeset converter converts from a source codeset to a target codeset;
• determining that a mapping table applicable to the source codeset and the target codeset does not exist;
• generating the mapping table, responsive to the request for the codeset converter to convert from the source codeset to the target codeset, and responsive to determining that the mapping table does not exist, wherein the mapping table maps from the source codeset to the target codeset;
• selecting an applicable codeset converter compiler, from among a plurality of available codeset converter compilers, wherein the applicable codeset converter compiler is configured to compile the codeset converter that converts from the source codeset to the target codeset;
• compiling, with the applicable codeset converter compiler and based on the mapping table from the source codeset to the target codeset, the codeset converter responsive to the request, wherein the codeset converter converts from the source codeset to the target codeset;
• and
• returning the requested codeset converter in response to the request.
