## Abstract

Methods for improving the visual processing of a healthy infant by administering a composition comprising RRR-alpha-tocopherol to the infant are disclosed. Methods for improving the visual acuity of a healthy infant by administering a composition comprising RRR-alpha-tocopherol to the infant are also disclosed. Methods for improving the development of the visual processing, visual acuity, or both, of an infant by administering a composition comprising RRR-alpha-tocopherol to the infant are also disclosed.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of improving the visual processing of a healthy infant, the method comprising administering a nutritional composition comprising RRR-alpha-tocopherol to the infant.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the nutritional composition delivers about 0.5 mg to about 100 mg of RRR-alpha-tocopherol per day to the infant.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the nutritional composition is a nutritional product further comprising at least one of protein, carbohydrate, and fat.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3 wherein the nutritional product is an infant nutritional formula comprising about 2% to about 75% protein, about 1% to about 85% carbohydrate, and about 5% to about 70% fat as percentages of the total calories.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the nutritional composition is administered at least once per day.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the nutritional composition is a vitamin supplement.

### Claim 7

A method of improving the visual acuity of a healthy infant, the method comprising administering a nutritional composition comprising RRR-alpha-tocopherol to the infant.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7 wherein the nutritional composition delivers about 0.5 mg to about 100 mg of RRR-alpha-tocopherol per day to the infant.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7 wherein the nutritional composition is an infant nutritional formula further comprising at least one of protein, carbohydrate, and fat.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9 wherein the nutritional product is an infant nutritional formula comprising about 2% to about 75% protein, about 1% to about 85% carbohydrate, and about 5% to about 70% fat as percentages of the total calories.

### Claim 11 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7 wherein the nutritional composition is administered at least once per day.

### Claim 12 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7 wherein the nutritional composition is a vitamin supplement.

### Claim 13

A method of improving the development of visual processing, visual acuity, or both visual processing and visual acuity in an infant, the method comprising administering a nutritional composition comprising RRR-alpha-tocopherol to the infant.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the nutritional composition delivers about 0.5 mg to about 100 mg of RRR-alpha-tocopherol per day to the infant.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13 wherein the nutritional composition is an infant nutritional formula further comprising at least one of protein, carbohydrate, and fat.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13 wherein the nutritional composition is administered at least once per day.

### Claim 17 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13 wherein the nutritional composition is a vitamin supplement.

### Claim 18 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the infant is a premature infant or a full-term infant.

### Claim 19 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, wherein the infant does not have ocular disease.
