Abstract
A device with switchable, chiral optical characteristics, has a first chiral arrangement with a first arrangement layer with at least one first nanostructure and a second arrangement layer with at least one second nanostructure. The first nanostructure and the second nanostructure are arranged relative to one another such that the chiral arrangement is chiral. A switching material with switchable dielectric characteristics is arranged between the first arrangement layer and the second arrangement layer.

A device with switchable, chiral optical characteristics, the device comprising:
- a first chiral arrangement having a first arrangement layer with at least one first nanostructure and a second arrangement layer with at least one second nanostructure, the first nanostructure and the second nanostructure arranged relative to one another such that the chiral arrangement is chiral;
- a switching material with switchable dielectric characteristics arranged between the first arrangement layer and the second arrangement layer;
- a second chiral arrangement arranged on the first chiral arrangement, the second chiral arrangement having a third arrangement layer with at least one third nanostructure and a fourth arrangement layer with at least one fourth nanostructure,
- wherein the second chiral arrangement is free of a switching material, and
- wherein the second chiral arrangement has chiral optical characteristics at a same wavelength as the first chiral arrangement.
A device with switchable, chiral optical characteristics, the device comprising:
- a first chiral arrangement having a first arrangement layer with at least one first nanostructure and a second arrangement layer with at least one second nanostructure, the first nanostructure and the second nanostructure arranged relative to one another such that the chiral arrangement is chiral;
- a switching material with switchable dielectric characteristics arranged between the first arrangement layer and the second arrangement layer;
- and
- a second chiral arrangement arranged on the first chiral arrangement, the second chiral arrangement having a third arrangement layer with at least one third nanostructure and a fourth arrangement layer with at least one fourth nanostructure,

- wherein the second chiral arrangement has chiral optical characteristics at a same wavelength as the first chiral arrangement, wherein
- the at least one first nanostructure comprises a first nanorod and the at least one second nanostructure comprises a second nanorod, wherein
- the first nanorod of the first arrangement layer is oriented at an angle to the second nanorod of the second arrangement layer when seen on an imaginary plane of the chiral arrangement, and wherein
- the first and second nanorods are arranged so as to be vertically offset with respect to one another and have overlapping ends when viewed from above.
A device with switchable, chiral optical characteristics, the device comprising:
- a first chiral arrangement having a first arrangement layer with at least one first nanostructure and a second arrangement layer with at least one second nanostructure, the first nanostructure and the second nanostructure arranged relative to one another such that the chiral arrangement is chiral;
