Abstract

An integrated ignition and electronic auto-choke module for an internal combustion engine and an internal combustion engine including the same. In one aspect, the module includes a housing that is configured to be mounted to an engine block of an internal combustion engine. The housing may contain at least a portion of a first temperature sensor that measures a first temperature indicative of an engine temperature. The housing may also contain a controller and at least a portion of an ignition circuit. The controller may be coupled to the first temperature sensor and configured to determine a starting position of a choke valve based on the first temperature and operate an actuator to move the choke valve into the starting position accordingly.

Dependent claims

An integrated ignition and electronic auto-choke module comprising:

a housing configured to be mounted to an engine block of an internal combustion engine;
adjacent a flywheel;
the housing at least partially containing:
a first temperature sensor configured for measuring a first temperature indicative of an engine temperature;
a controller operably coupled to the first temperature sensor via a communication pathway, the controller configured to:
determine a starting position of a choke valve based on the first temperature;
and operate an actuator to move the choke valve into the starting position during a first choke opening stage;
and
an ignition circuit
a lamination stack, the lamination stack configured to be coupled to the engine block and to the housing to mount the housing to the engine block
wherein the first temperature sensor is coupled to the lamination stack and protrudes from the housing and wherein the controller is fully disposed within an interior of the housing.

An internal combustion engine comprising:

an engine block;
a combustion chamber that receives a fuel mixture;
a choke valve for adjusting a fuel-to-air ratio of the fuel mixture received by the combustion chamber;
and
an integrated ignition and electronic auto-choke module comprising a housing configured to be mounted to the engine block, the housing at least partially containing:
a first temperature sensor configured for measuring temperature of the engine block as a first temperature;
a controller operably coupled to the first temperature sensor via a communication pathway, the controller configured to:
determine a starting position of the choke valve based on the first temperature;
and operate an actuator to move the choke valve into the starting position during a first choke opening stage;
and
an ignition circuit
a second temperature sensor for measuring temperature of ambient air as a second temperature, the second temperature sensor operably coupled to the controller;
determine a first ramp for opening the choke valve from the starting position to a fully open position based on the first temperature and the second temperature;
and operate the actuator to adjust the choke valve from the starting position to the fully open position in accordance with the first ramp.
