Abstract
A wireline cable includes an electrically conductive cable core for transmitting electrical power, an inner armor layer disposed around the cable core, and an outer armor layer disposed around the inner armor layer, wherein a torque on the cable is balanced by providing the outer armor layer with a predetermined amount of coverage less than an entire circumference of the inner armor layer, or by providing the outer armor layer and the inner armor layer with a substantially zero lay angle.
Claims18
A method for making a wireline cable available for use in a wellbore, comprising:
- providing a torque balanced wireline cable, wherein the wireline cable is suitable and adapted for use in a wellbore, the cable comprising a cable core with two layers of armor wire disposed thereabout, wherein an outer layer of armor wire covers less than an entire circumference of an inner armor wire layer, and a substantially smooth exterior surface disposed about the armor wire layers and the cable core, wherein the cable is configured to attach to downhole equipment and for use in a downhole environment, wherein the coverage of the outer layer over the inner layer is from about 60% to about 88%.
