Abstract
The present invention discloses methods and materials for delivering a cargo compound into a cancer cell. Delivery of the cargo compound is accomplished by the use of protein transduction domains derived from cupredoxins. The invention further discloses methods for treating cancer and diagnosing cancer.

A pharmaceutical composition comprising:
- a modified peptide consisting of a sequence that has at least about 90% amino acid sequence identity to less than a full-length wild-type cupredoxin selected from the group consisting of:
- SEQ ID NO:
- 5, SEQ ID NO:
- 6, SEQ ID NO:

- and
- a pharmaceutically-acceptable carrier,
- wherein the modified peptide extends or optimizes the half-life of the modified peptide in the bloodstream of a patient;
- wherein the modified peptide facilitates the entry of a linked molecule into a mammalian cancer cell;
- and
- wherein the pharmaceutical composition is formulated in one or more forms selected from the group consisting of:
- a tablet, a pill, a dragee, a capsule, a liquid, a gel, a syrup, and a slurry suspension.
A complex comprising a cargo compound and a modified peptide consisting of a sequence that has at least about 90% amino acid sequence identity to less than a full-length wild-type cupredoxin selected from the group consisting of:
- SEQ ID NO:
- 5, SEQ ID NO:
