Abstract
Provided herein is a composition, method of manufacture, and method for treating a disease condition and/or raising cellular levels of glutathione, the composition comprising L-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylate, (procysteine) having a purity of at least 99 to 99.5 percent.
Claims8
A method for making L-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylate (procysteine), the method comprising:
- dissolving triphosgene in toluene
- reacting L-cysteine with the triphosgene dissolved in toluene in a reaction mixture;
- testing the reaction for completeness;
- continuing the reaction to completion if incomplete;
- cooling the reaction mixture to a temperature in a range of from about 0 degrees C. to about 20 degrees C.;
- concentrating and drying a product;
- isolating and washing the product;
- drying the product;
- testing the product for purity;
- and
- rewashing until the product reaches a purity in a range of from about 95 percent to about 100 percent.
