Method for preparing chlorine gas through catalytic oxidation of hydrogen chloride

A method for preparing chlorine, comprising

• providing a first reactor and one or more downstream reactors, each of the first and one or more downstream reactors being filled with a catalyst and connected in series;
• feeding a first gas stream containing hydrogen chloride and a first gas stream containing oxygen to the first reactor, and feeding a replenishing gas stream containing hydrogen chloride or a replenishing gas stream containing oxygen to the one or more downstream reactors;
• carrying out a catalytic oxidation of the hydrogen chloride in the first and the one or more downstream reactors, wherein an effluent gas stream obtained in each reactor is fed into the next downstream reactor;
• obtaining a last effluent gas stream from the last reactor of the one or more downstream reactors, and dividing the last effluent gas stream into a recycling stream and a remaining stream,
• returning the recycling stream to any of the first reactor or the one or more downstream reactors without separation of products;
• and
• separating and recovering chlorine product from the remaining stream.
