Abstract
An injection device includes a housing, a resilient member adapted to provide a force necessary for ejecting a dose from the injection device, and a dose setting member operatively connected to a dose indicator which is positioned within the housing. The dose setting member and the dose indicator cooperate to set the dose to be ejected from the injection device. The dose indicator, during dose setting, is adapted to undergo a mere rotational movement within the housing and relative to the housing.
Claims19
An injection device comprising:
- a housing;
- a resilient member adapted to provide a force to eject a dose from the injection device;
- a dose setting member operatively connected to a dose indicator positioned within the housing, the dose setting member and the dose indicator cooperating to set the dose to be ejected from the injection device,
- wherein, during a dose setting, the dose indicator is adapted to rotate relative to the housing, to remain translationally fixed relative to the housing, and to remain within the housing, and
- wherein an overall length of the injection device when the dose has not been set is equal to an overall length of the injection device when the dose has been set and before the dose is ejected from the injection device;
- a piston rod having a threaded outer surface with a drive track extending in a longitudinal direction along the threaded outer surface of the piston rod;
- a drive member engaging at least part of the drive track of the piston rod and being releasably coupled to the dose indicator, the drive member being adapted to drive and rotate with the piston rod during a dose dispensing,
- wherein the housing comprises a threaded portion being engaged with the threaded outer surface of the piston rod such that rotation of the piston rod axially displaces the piston rod relative to the housing;
- and
- a clutch arranged between the drive member and the dose indicator, the clutch being configured to enable relative rotation between the drive member and the dose indicator during the dose setting and being configured to rotationally constrain the drive member and the dose indicator during the dose dispensing.
A dose setting mechanism for an injection device, the dose setting mechanism comprising:
- a dose indicator positionable within a housing of the injection device;
- a dose setting member operatively connected to the dose indicator, the dose setting member and the dose indicator cooperating to set a dose to be ejected from the injection device,
- wherein, during a dose setting, the dose indicator is adapted to rotate relative to the housing, to remain translationally fixed relative to the housing of the injection device, and to remain within the housing of the injection device, and
- wherein the dose setting member is configured such that an overall length of the injection device when the dose has not been set is equal to an overall length of the injection device when the dose has been set and before the dose is ejected from the injection device;
- a piston rod having a threaded outer surface with a drive track extending in a longitudinal direction along the threaded outer surface of the piston rod;
- a drive member engaging at least part of the drive track of the piston rod and being releasably coupled to the dose indicator, the drive member being adapted to drive and rotate with the piston rod during a dose dispensing,
- wherein the housing comprises a threaded portion being engaged with the threaded outer surface of the piston rod such that rotation of the piston rod axially displaces the piston rod relative to the housing;
- and
- a clutch arranged between the drive member and the dose indicator, the clutch being configured to enable relative rotation between the drive member and the dose indicator during the dose setting and being configured to rotationally constrain the drive member and the dose indicator during the dose dispensing.
A method of dispensing a dose of a medicament using an injection device, the method comprising:
- rotating a dose setting member of the injection device relative to a housing of the injection device to set a dose such that a dose indicator of the injection device rotates within the housing relative to the housing of the injection device while remaining translationally fixed relative to the housing,
- wherein an overall length of the injection device when the dose has not been set is equal to an overall length of the injection device when the dose has been set and before the dose is ejected from the injection device,
- wherein the injection device further comprises:
- a piston rod having a threaded outer surface with a drive track extending in a longitudinal direction along the threaded outer surface of the piston rod,
- a drive member engaging at least part of the drive track of the piston rod and being releasably coupled to the dose indicator, the drive member being adapted to drive and rotate with the piston rod during a dose dispensing,
- wherein the housing comprises a threaded portion being engaged with the threaded outer surface of the piston rod such that rotation of the piston rod axially displaces the piston rod relative to the housing, and
- a clutch arranged between the drive member and the dose indicator, the clutch being configured to enable relative rotation between the drive member and the dose indicator during a dose setting and being configured to rotationally constrain the drive member and the dose indicator during the dose dispensing;
- and
- dispensing the dose from the injection device.
