Abstract
A substantially surface active agent tree composition which includes a hydrophobic solvent, and/or a petrolatm, a paraffin wax and/or a fatty alcohol, a fatty acid and/or a wax and/or shea butter, with and without a propellant. A substantially surface active agent free composition, further comprising, a tetracycline antibiotic, or a vitamin D derivative, or one or more other active agents. A method of treatment using a substantially surface active agent tree composition.
Claims33
A method for the treatment and/or alleviation of acne, comprising topically applying on at least alternate days or at least once daily to a target area on the skin or mucosa of a subject having acne a hydrophobic, breakable foam composition released from a container, wherein the container comprises:
- i) a carrier comprising:
- a) about 60% to about 95% by weight of the carrier of at least one hydrophobic solvent;
- and
- b) a foamer complex comprising:
- (i) a first member comprising about 0.1% to about 20% by weight of a fatty alcohol;
- and
- (ii) a second member comprising about 0.1% to about 20% by weight of a combination of a fatty acid and a wax comprising beeswax, and
- wherein the carrier is surfactant free;
- wherein the carrier is waterless;
- wherein the carrier' comprises about 15% or less by weight of petrolatum;
- wherein the foam composition is a placebo that does not contain a tetracycline antibiotic;
- and
- ii) a liquefied or gas propellant.
A method for the treatment and/or alleviation of acne comprising topically applying on at least alternate days or at least once daily to a target area on the skin or mucosa of a subject, a breakable foam composition released from a container, wherein the container comprises:
- i) a carrier comprising:
- a) about 75% to about 85% by weight of the carrier of at least one hydrophobic solvent;
- and
- b) (i) a wax comprising a beeswax;
- (ii) a fatty alcohol, a fatty acid, or both;
- and
- (iii) a color agent, and
- wherein the wax is about 2% to about 7% by weight of the carrier;
- wherein the fatty alcohol if present is about 5% to about 10% by weight of the carrier and comprises one or more of myristyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, cetostearyl alcohol and behenyl alcohol;
- wherein the fatty acid if present comprises stearic acid and is about 2% to about 7% by weight of the carrier;
- wherein the carrier is surfactant free;
- wherein the carrier is free of water;
- wherein the carrier comprises about 15% or less by weight of the carrier petrolatum;
- wherein the foam composition is a placebo that does not contain a tetracycline antibiotic;
- wherein the acne is selected from the group consisting of acne conglobate, acne fulminans, acne vulgaris, nodular papulopustar acne, and any two or more thereof;
- and
- ii) a liquefied or gas propellant.
A method for the treatment and/or alleviation of acne comprising topically applying on at least alternate days or at least once daily to a target area on the skin or mucosa of a subject having acne, a breakable foam composition released from a container, wherein the container comprises:
- i) a carrier comprising:
- a) about 60% to about 95% by weight of the carrier of at least one hydrophobic solvent selected from a group consisting of:
- a mineral oil, a soybean oil, a coconut oil, a silicone oil, and mixtures of any two or more thereof;
- and
- b) (i) about 0.1% to about 20% by weight of a combination of a fatty acid and a wax comprising beeswax and hydrogenated castor oil;
- and
- (ii) about 0.1% to about 20% by weight of a fatty alcohol, and
- wherein the carrier is surfactant free:
- wherein the carrier is waterless;
- wherein the carrier comprises about 15% or less by weight of petrolatum;
- wherein the foam composition is a placebo that does not contain a tetracycline antibiotic;
- and
- ii) a liquefied or compressed gas propellant.
