Abstract

Compositions of and methods for using synthetic retinoids as retinoid replacements and opsin agonists are provided.

Dependent claims

A method of treating age-related macular degeneration in an aging human subject, the method comprising:

administering a therapeutically effective amount of 9-cis-retinal to the aging human subject in need thereof, wherein the 9-cis-retinal that forms a functional opsin/chromophore complex in the eye.
