Abstract
Controlled activation identifiers for use in ingestible compositions, such as pharma-informatics enabled compositions, are provided. The identifiers include a controlled activation element that provides for activation of the identifier in response to the presence of a predetermined stimulus at a target site of interest. The invention finds use in a variety of different applications, including but not limited to, monitoring of therapeutic regimen compliance, tracking the history of pharmaceutical agents, etc.
Claims17
A pharmaceutical composition comprising:
- a pharmaceutically active agent;
- a controlled activation identifier configured to transmit a signal upon contact with a target site of a body, wherein the controlled activation identifier comprises:
- first and second materials with dissimilar electrochemical properties;
- a dried conductive medium precursor;
- and
- a plurality of protective layers comprising:
- a first layer configured to prevent mechanical damage to the controlled activation identifier;
- a second layer configured to dissolve at a target pH;
- and
- a third layer configured to control exposure of the dried conductive medium precursor to the target site.
