Abstract
A shock wave device to provide treatment within a blood vessel includes a shock wave reflector that directs shock waves laterally to blood vessel walls in a direction perpendicular to a central axis of symmetry of a catheter.
Claims8
An intracorporeal shock wave apparatus comprising:
- a catheter sized to fit within a blood vessel, wherein the catheter includes a tubular outer wall with a catheter longitudinal central axis of symmetry;
- and
- a shock wave applicator coupled to the catheter and including a shock wave generation source disposed within an ellipsoidal reflector having a major ellipsoidal axis and a minor ellipsoidal axis, wherein the reflector is configured to focus waves from the shock wave generation source and the reflector includes an opening along the tubular outer wall such that the major ellipsoidal axis is perpendicular to the catheter longitudinal central axis of symmetry.
