Abstract
A method is described in which a seismic data set of a geological survey is provided. A geological discontinuity in the seismic data set is identified. A first parameterization of at least a portion of a first side of the geological discontinuity is identified. A second parameterization of at least a portion of a second side of the geological discontinuity is identified. A plurality of isolines of properties of the first and second parameterizations is determined. A surface of the geological discontinuity is divided according to the isolines. The divided surfaces of the geological discontinuity are mapped.
Claims20
A method for interfacing a geological discontinuity, comprising:
- providing a seismic data set of a geological survey;
- identifying a geological discontinuity in the seismic data set;
- identifying a first parameterization of at least a portion of a first side of the geological discontinuity;
- identifying a second parameterization of at least a portion of a second side of the geological discontinuity;
- determining a plurality of isolines of parameterization properties of the first and second parameterizations;
- dividing a surface of the geological discontinuity according to the isolines;
- mapping the divided surfaces of the geological discontinuity;
- and
- summing overlapping areas of the divided surfaces to model flow through the discontinuity.
A geophysics processor, comprising:
- a receiving portion configured to receive a data set of a geological survey;
- an identification portion configured to:
- identify a geological discontinuity in the seismic data set,
- identify a first parameterization of at least a portion of a first side of the geological discontinuity, and
- identify a second parameterization of at least a portion of a second side of the geological discontinuity;
- and
- a processing circuit configured to:
- determine a plurality of isolines of parameterization properties of the first and second parameterizations,
- divide a surface of the geological discontinuity according to the isolines,
- map the divided surfaces of the geological discontinuity, and
- sum overlapping areas of the divided surfaces to model flow through the discontinuity.
