Abstract
A semantic sensing system includes a semantic engine coupled to one or more sensing entities, and a memory having a plurality of semantics and semantic inference rules. A semantic engine is configured to interpret the plurality of rules to determine a composite semantic by inferring a first semantic, determining a second sematic based on an external input, and infer a composite sematic based on the first and second semantics and a semantic inference rule.
Claims30
A semantic sensing system comprising:
- a first sensing entity;
- a semantic engine coupled with the first sensing entity;
- a memory associated with the semantic engine, the memory storing a plurality of semantics;
- the memory further storing a plurality of rules comprising:
- a first semantic inference rule associating data from the first sensing entity with a first semantic;
- a second semantic inference rule for a first composite semantic indicating that the first composite semantic is a combination of the first and a second semantic;
- the semantic engine being configured to interpret the plurality of rules;
- the semantic engine further being configured to determine the first composite semantic by:
- inferring the first semantic based on an input from the first sensing entity at a first time and the first semantic inference rule;
- determining the second semantic based on an external input;
- inferring the first composite semantic based on the first and the second semantics and the second semantic inference rule;
- wherein the semantic engine invalidates the inferred first composite semantic after an interval of time, the interval of time comprising a semantic time interval based on a defined expiration associated with a second composite semantic.

- the memory further storing a plurality of rules comprising:
- a first semantic inference rule associating data from the first sensing entity with the first semantic;

- a third semantic inference rule for a first composite semantic, the first composite semantic being based on a combination the first semantic and the second semantic;
- the semantic engine being configured to interpret the plurality of rules;
- the semantic engine further being configured to determine the first composite semantic by:
- inferring the first semantic based on an input from the first sensing entity and the first semantic inference rule;
- inferring the second semantic based on an input received from the second sensing entity and the second semantic inference rule;
- inferring the first composite semantic based on the first and the second semantics and the third semantic inference rule;
- and
- wherein the semantic engine invalidates the inferred first composite semantic after an interval of time, the interval of time being based on a semantic time interval defining at least one expiration time boundary based on a second composite semantic.
