Abstract
A strapdown heading sensor includes an elongated housing and a compass module at least partially positioned within an inner cavity of the elongated housing. The compass module is cantilevered within the inner cavity of the elongated housing.
Claims20
A strapdown heading sensor, comprising:
- an elongated housing;
- and
- a compass module at least partially positioned within an inner cavity of the elongate housing, the compass module including at least one fluxgate sensor such that the compass module is configured to generate and output data signals corresponding to at least one of a strength and a direction of the Earth's magnetic field, wherein the compass module is positioned within the elongated housing with a clearance space between an inner surface of the elongated housing and the compass module, wherein the compass module is isolated from the elongated housing and flexing and/or bending of the elongated housing does not disturb an alignment of the compass module,
- wherein the elongated housing comprises an alignment marking arranged to indicate an instrument frame, the alignment marking enabling calibration of the compass module,
- wherein the compass module is further configured to generate and output data signals corresponding to at least one of a strength and direction of gravitational acceleration of the strapdown heading sensor.

- and
- a processing module positioned within the elongated housing, wherein the processing module is structurally isolated from the compass module within the elongated housing.
