Abstract
A process of catalytically dehydrogenating an alkane to an alkene, using Cr2O3 as a catalyst, where the catalyst is oxidized to CrO3 during the dehydrogenation, and is regenerated by using CO as a reducing gas. In regenerating the catalyst with CO, CO2 is produced, which may be fed to a dehydrogenation reactor with the alkane and reacted with H2 produced by the dehydrogenation, to form CO and H2O by the reverse water-gas shift reaction.
Claims11
A process of dehydrogenating an alkane to an alkene, comprising:
- (a) feeding CO to a first reactor containing a catalyst comprising CrO3;
- (b) contacting the CO with the CrO3, to form Cr2O3 and CO2;
- (c) feeding the CO2 obtained in (b), and an alkane, to a second reactor containing a catalyst comprising Cr2O3;
- (d) contacting the alkane with the catalyst comprising Cr2O3 in the second reactor to form an alkene and H2;
- (e) reacting the CO2 from (c) with the H2 from (d), in the second reactor, to form CO and H2O;
- and
- (f) feeding the CO formed in (e) to (a).
4 more elements
A process of dehydrogenating an alkane to an alkene, comprising:
- (a) feeding CO to a reactor containing a catalyst comprising CrO3 and a support component;
- (b) contacting the CO with the CrO3 at a temperature of 550 to 600° C. and a pressure of 0.8 to 1.2 atm, to form Cr2O3 and CO2;
- then
- (c) feeding a C3-C5 alkane to the reactor;
- and
- (d) contacting the alkane with the catalyst to form an alkene and H2;
- wherein the catalyst comprising CrO3 comprises 15 wt % to 35 wt % chromium, based on a total weight of chromium and the support component.
