Abstract
Methods and apparatuses are provided for manufacturing a transaction card. The disclosed methods and apparatuses may be used to form a transaction card frame within a mold. The transaction card frame may include one or more recessed portions formed within a first surface of the transaction card frame. The one or more recessed portions may be configured for affixing one or more electronic components.
Claims21
A method of manufacturing a transaction card, the method comprising:
- forming a transaction card frame within a mold, the transaction card frame including:
- a front side having a first surface;
- a rear side opposite the front side;
- and
- a recessed portion within the first surface, the recessed portion configured for affixing one or more electronic components and having a second surface recessed a first depth from the first surface;
- wherein forming the transaction card includes:
- filling a cavity in the mold with heated material;
- cooling the mold;
- removing the card from the mold by driving a pin through a through hole disposed in the mold to release the card frame from the mold, wherein a mark is left in the recessed portion by the pin;
- removing the mark from the recessed portion during the formation of the second surface;
- and
- installing an electronic component into the recessed portion.
