Abstract
A system for conscious sensory feedback for a body extremity without sensation or a body extremity prosthesis is disclosed, as well as methods for conscious sensory feedback based on said system; a glove, a sock and a body extremity prosthesis comprising said system; and use of the system.
Claims14
A system that provides conscious sensory feedback to a patient, the system comprising:
- first and second sensors configured in a spatial pattern and adapted to be arranged on a region where conscious sensory feedback is desired, the first and second sensors connecting to first and second sensor conduits, respectively;
- a processor arranged to receive at least one signal from the first and second sensors via the first and second sensor conduits, respectively;
- a tactile display connected to the processor, the tactile display arranged to be placed in an area of the patient neighboring the region where conscious sensory feedback is desired, the tactile display comprising:
- first and second transducer conduits connecting to the processor, and corresponding to the first and second sensor conduits for receiving output by the processor, respectively;
- first and second transducers arranged for cooperating with receptive fields on the area of the patient, and connecting to the first and second transducer conduits, respectively, each of the first and second sensors being topographically correlated with a respective one of the first and second transducers;
- and
- a support adapted to hold and position the first and second transducers proximate to the receptive fields to map spatial recognition and association of the region where conscious sensory feedback is desired by mapping signals from the first and second sensors by the first and second transducers, respectively, when a stimulus is applied to the region.
