Abstract
A fish rearing tank has an egg-shaped shell with a vertical long axis and gradually narrowing shape towards a tip portion. The egg-shaped shell holds a water volume for the contained fish in a major wider, lower portion, and encloses air in the minor, upper, tip portion. The shell forms a closed, rigid tank and has one or more water inlets, and one or more water outlets. A ring-shaped buoyancy collar is mounted on the egg-shaped shell. The shell has a fixed ballast in the lower end of said wider, lower portion of the egg-shaped shell.
Claims24
A fish rearing tank comprising:
- an egg-shaped shell having a generally vertical long axis and gradually narrowing shape towards a minor, upper, tip portion, said egg-shaped shell for holding a water volume in a major, wider, lower portion and enclosing air in said minor, upper, tip portion, said egg-shaped shell forming a closed, generally rigid tank and having one or more water inlets, and one or more water outlets;
- and
- a ring-shaped buoyancy collar mounted on said egg-shaped shell,
- wherein said egg-shaped shell has a fixed ballast in a lower end of said wider, lower portion of said egg-shaped shell.

A method of rearing fish, comprising the steps of:
- providing a fish rearing tank comprising:
- an egg-shaped shell having a generally vertical long axis and gradually narrowing shape towards a minor, upper, tip portion, said egg-shaped shell for holding a water volume in a major, wider, lower portion and enclosing air in said minor, upper, tip portion, said egg-shaped shell forming a closed, generally rigid tank and having one or more water inlets, and one or more water outlets;
- and
- a ring-shaped buoyancy collar mounted on said egg-shaped shell,
- wherein said egg-shaped shell has a fixed ballast in a lower end of said wider, lower portion of said egg-shaped shell;
- placing a number of fish in said egg-shaped shell;
- circulating in fresh seawater through said one or more water inlets arranged in said major, wider, lower portion of said egg-shaped shell;
- and
- circulating out used water through said one or more water outlets near an internal water surface level of said egg-shaped shell, so as for conducting bottom to top circulation of water through the egg-shaped shell, while maintaining a volume of the air in said minor, upper, tip portion.
