A far-field transmitter for wirelessly transmitting power waves based on parameters received from a receiver, the far-field transmitter comprising:
- a plurality of antenna elements, wherein at least one antenna element of the plurality of antenna elements is configured to transmit a plurality of exploratory waves, including at least one exploratory power wave, towards different segments of the transmission field of the far-field transmitter, before receiving any communications from any device within the transmission field of the far-field transmitter;
- a communications component configured to receive from a receiver a communications signal including one or more parameters:
- (i) identifying a first location of the receiver within a segment of the different segments at which the at least one exploratory power wave of the plurality of exploratory waves was received by the receiver within the transmission field associated with the transmitter and (ii) providing feedback to the far-field transmitter regarding the at least one exploratory power wave of the plurality of exploratory waves;
- and
- one or more processors configured to cause the far-field transmitter to:
- upon receiving the one or more parameters:
- (i) store the one or more parameters into a mapping memory comprising non-transitory machine-readable storage media configured to store the one or more parameters and (ii) determine, based on the first location and the feedback from the receiver, a set of characteristics for a plurality of power waves;
- cause at least some of the plurality of antennas to transmit the plurality of power waves with the determined set of characteristics to the first location;
- and
- continue to transmit exploratory waves while transmitting, by at least some of the plurality of antennas of the far-field transmitter, the plurality of power waves with the determined set of characteristics to the first location.
