Abstract
The present invention comprises methods and compositions for the reduction of oxalate in humans, animals and plants. For example, the invention provides methods and compositions for the delivery of one or more oxalate-reducing enzymes to the intestinal tracts of persons and animals. The methods and compositions can be used in treating and preventing oxalate-related conditions.
Claims10
A method for reducing systemic circulating oxalate in a subject in need thereof, comprising orally administering to a human or animal an effective amount of a composition comprising viable bacterial cells of Oxalobacter formigenes, wherein the administering is effected at least once per day for a period of months or years, and wherein the method is effective to induce enteric elimination of systemic circulating oxalate.
