## Abstract

A transaction device may include a power reception component configured to receive power from an external device with which the transaction device is to interact to perform a transaction. The transaction device may include a secure element configured to perform the transaction using the power received from the external device. The transaction device may include one or more peripheral components configured to perform one or more operations other than the transaction. The transaction device may include a power management component configured to determine at least one operation, of the one or more operations, to be performed in association with the transaction, and to route power received from the external device to at least one peripheral component, of the one or more peripheral components, capable of performing the at least one operation.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A transaction device, comprising:
a power reception component configured to wirelessly receive power from an external device with which the transaction device is to interact to perform a transaction;
a secure element configured to perform the transaction using the power received from the external device,
the secure element including a universal integrated circuit card (UICC) or a secure digital (SD) card;
one or more peripheral components configured to perform one or more operations other than the transaction; and
a power management component,
the power management component including one or more of a switch, a gate, a transistor, a controller, a processor, a programmable logic device, or an application-specific integrated circuit, and
the power management component being configured to:
determine at least one operation, of the one or more operations, to be performed in association with the transaction,
determine whether an amount of power available after performing the transaction satisfies a threshold; and
selectively obtain additional power from the external device, for performing the at least one operation, based on determining whether the amount of power satisfies the threshold,
the additional power being obtained when the amount of power does not satisfy the threshold, or
the additional power not being obtained when the amount of power satisfies the threshold, and
route power received from the external device to at least one peripheral component, of the one or more peripheral components, capable of performing the at least one operation,
the routed power being sufficient for the at least one peripheral component to perform the at least one operation.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The transaction device of claim 1, wherein the power management component is included in the secure element.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The transaction device of claim 1, wherein the power management component is separate from the secure element.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The transaction device of claim 1, wherein the power reception component is a near field communication (NFC) antenna configured to receive power from the external device via an NFC field.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The transaction device of claim 1, wherein the one or more peripheral components include at least one of:
a wireless personal area network (WPAN) communication component,
a display,
a speaker,
a light-emitting diode, or
an energy storage component.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The transaction device of claim 1, wherein the one or more operations include at least one of:
transmission or reception of information via a wireless personal area network (WPAN) communication component,
presentation of information on a display,
output of an indication via a speaker or a light-emitting diode, or
storage of energy in an energy storage component.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The transaction device of claim 1, wherein the external device includes a transaction terminal.

### Claim 8

A method, comprising:
receiving, by a transaction device, power wirelessly from an external device with which the transaction device is to communicate to perform a transaction;
performing, by the transaction device, the transaction using the power received from the external device;
determining, by the transaction device, one or more operations to be performed in connection with the transaction,
the one or more operations being different from the transaction;
determining, by the transaction device, that an amount of power available after performing the transaction does not satisfy a threshold;
obtaining, by the transaction device, additional power from the external device based on determining that the amount of power does not satisfy the threshold;
routing, by the transaction device, the power received from the external device and the additional power to one or more peripheral components of the transaction device based on the one or more operations to be performed; and
performing, by the transaction device, at least one operation of the one or more operations using the one or more peripheral components,
the power and the additional power being sufficient to power the at least one operation.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, further comprising:
determining an amount of power required to perform the one or more operations; and
wherein obtaining the additional power comprises:
obtaining at least the amount of power required to perform the one or more operations.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, wherein obtaining the additional power comprises:
transmitting a request, to the external device, for the additional power.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, wherein the request indicates at least one of:
an amount of the additional power required to be obtained to permit performance of the one or more operations, or
an amount of time during which the additional power is to be obtained.

### Claim 12 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, further comprising:
determining that an amount of power available after performing the transaction satisfies a first threshold but does not satisfy a second threshold; and
wherein routing the power received from the external device to the one or more peripheral components comprises:
routing the power to a first peripheral component based on determining that the amount of power satisfies the first threshold; and
preventing the power from being routed to a second peripheral component based on determining that the amount of power does not satisfy the second threshold.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)
