## Abstract

Systems, methods and apparatus for presenting information using idle time slot. In an aspect, when a standby or idle device detects that a user gazes at it, it starts showing contents on a display automatically. In another aspect, when a standby or idle device detects that a user shakes or taps on it, it starts gaze sensing. If the user gazes at the device, it begins to show contents automatically. Facial recognition is used to recognize a user.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A system having a display or arranged for working with a display of an electronic apparatus, comprising:
1) connection component for connecting the system to an electronic device and/or a communication network;
2) sensing means for sensing a user and determining whether the user looks at a direction toward the display, wherein the sensing means is triggered by a user input after it is detected that the user input matches a predetermined profile, the user input is generated by the user involving physical contact with the display or the apparatus; and
3) the system configured such that a plurality of contents is presented on the display when the display has an idle screen or a screen in inactive or in screen-saver mode, a watching time period goes beyond a predetermined value, and the user is recognized via a recognition mechanism, wherein the plurality of contents is arranged unrelated to information presented before the idle-screen state, inactive mode, or screen-saver mode, the watching time period is measured when the user looks at a direction toward the display.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The system according to claim 1 wherein presentation of the plurality of contents stops when it is detected that the user looks at a direction other than the one toward the display for a predetermined period of time.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The system according to claim 1, further including shrinking means for shrinking a window presenting the plurality of contents.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The system according to claim 1 wherein the user's instructions are not followed when the user is not recognized.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The system according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of contents includes at least one of the following items: news, alert, update, email, text message, sponsored contents, and other information.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The system according to claim 1 wherein voice commands of the user are sensed.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The system according to claim 1 wherein the plurality of contents is presented continuously when it is detected that the user keeps looking at a direction toward the display.

### Claim 8

A method performed for presenting information on a display of an electronic device, comprising:
1) detecting a user input generated by a user involving physical contact with the electronic device or physical movement of the electronic device;
2) determining whether the user input matches a predetermined profile;
3) performing gaze detection after determining that the user input matches the predetermined profile;
4) sensing the user and determining whether the user is recognized via a recognition mechanism;
5) measuring a gazing time period during which the user gazes at a direction toward the electronic device and monitoring whether the gazing time period exceeds a predetermined value; and
6) presenting a plurality of contents via the display when the display has an idle screen or a screen in inactive or in screen-saver mode, the user is recognized via the recognition mechanism, and the gazing time period goes beyond the predetermined value, the plurality of contents arranged unrelated to information presented before the idle-screen state, inactive mode, or screen-saver mode.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The method according to claim 8, further including stopping presenting the plurality of contents when it is detected that the user looks at a direction other than the one toward the electronic device for a predetermined period of time.

### Claim 10 (depends on 8)

The method according to claim 8, further including shrinking a window presenting the plurality of contents when a user command is received.

### Claim 11 (depends on 8)

The method according to claim 8 wherein the user's command is not followed when the user is not recognized.

### Claim 12 (depends on 8)

The method according to claim 8 wherein the plurality of contents includes at least one of the following items: news, alert, update, email, text message, sponsored contents, and other information.

### Claim 13 (depends on 8)

The method according to claim 8, further including sensing and implementing voice commands of the user.

### Claim 14 (depends on 8)

The method according to claim 8, further including presenting different contents via the display when another user is recognized.

### Claim 15

A method performed for presenting information on a display of an electronic device, comprising:
1) monitoring the electronic device and/or physical movement of the electronic device to sense a user input;
2) determining whether the user input matches a predetermined profile;
3) performing gaze detection after determining that the user input matches the predetermined profile;
4) sensing the user and determining whether the user is recognized via a recognition mechanism;

### Claim 16 (depends on 15)

The method according to claim 15, further including stopping presenting the plurality of contents when it is detected that the user looks at a direction other than the one toward the electronic device for a predetermined period of time.

### Claim 17 (depends on 15)

The method according to claim 15 wherein the user's command is not followed when the user is not recognized.

### Claim 18 (depends on 15)

The method according to claim 15 wherein the plurality of contents includes at least one of the following items: news, alert, update, email, text message, sponsored contents, and other information.

### Claim 19 (depends on 15)

The method according to claim 15, further including sensing and implementing voice commands of the user.

### Claim 20 (depends on 15)

The method according to claim 15, further including presenting different contents via the display when another user is recognized.
