Imaging device which obtains still images from captured video

An imaging device comprising:

• an optical system unit that controls optical information indicating an object image, the optical system unit including at least one lens;
• an imaging unit that captures image data from the optical information input through the optical system unit;
• an image processor that performs a predetermined process to the image data generated by the imaging unit;
• and
• a controller that controls at least one of the optical system unit, the imaging unit, and the image processor based on video capture settings relating to video capturing so as to generate video data,
• wherein the controller has at least a first video mode and a second video mode, each of which is configured to generate the video data, whereby:
• in the first video mode, video is captured in accordance with at least one or more first video capture settings;
• in the second video mode, video is captured in accordance with at least one or more second video capture settings;
• and
• the at least one or more second video capture settings being more suitable for recording a still image than the at least one or more first video capture settings,
• wherein the controller in the second video mode automatically sets the video capture settings to the at least one or more second video capture settings so that image quality of a still image generated from a single frame of a captured video taken during video capture in the second video mode is greater than image quality of a still image generated from a single frame of a captured video taken during video capture in the first video mode,
• wherein the video in the second video mode is captured in accordance with the at least one or more second video capture settings from start to end of a video recording and includes one or more frames generated into the still image,
• wherein each of the at least one or more first video capture settings and the at least one or more second video capture settings includes a setting relating to at least one of an autofocus tracking speed, an autoexposure tracking speed, and a white balance tracking speed, and
• wherein the greater image quality is due to at least one of the autofocus tracking speed, the autoexposure tracking speed, and the white balance tracking speed being set to a higher value in the at least one or more second video capture settings than in the at least one or more first video capture settings.
