Abstract
A wearable computing device comprises one or more motion sensors, a first circuit, and a second circuit. The one or more motion sensors are configured to measure swing motion. The first circuit is in communication with the one or more motion sensors and configured to translate measurements of the swing motion to machine-readable motion data and identify from the machine-readable motion data a golf shot in which a golf club held by a golfer contacts a golf ball. The second circuit is configured to increment a golf score of the golfer responsive to the golf shot being identified.
Claims20
A wearable computing device, comprising:
- one or more motion sensors configured to measure swing motion;
- a band to mount at least the one or more sensors to a golfer;
- a first circuit in communication with the one or more motion sensors, the first circuit being configured to translate measurements of swing motion to motion data and identify, from the motion data, a golf shot in which a golf club held by the golfer contacts a golf ball, the first circuit previously trained, via machine learning, with training motion data of previously-executed golf shots contacting golf balls and practice swings not contacting golf balls, to distinguish golf shots from practice swings, and
- a second circuit configured to increment a golf score of the golfer responsive to the golf shot being identified and maintain a golf score of the golfer responsive to a practice swing being identified.
A method comprising:
- translating, via one or more motion sensors mounted to a golfer via a band, swing motion to motion data;
- identifying a golf shot in which a golf club held by the golfer contacts a golf ball from the motion data using a circuit previously trained, via machine learning, with training motion data of previously-executed golf shots contacting golf balls and practice swings not contacting golf balls, to distinguish golf shots from practice swings;
- incrementing a golf score of the golfer responsive to the golf shot being identified;
- and
- maintaining a golf score of the golfer responsive to a practice swing being identified.
A wrist-worn computing device, comprising:
- a wrist band;
- a wearable computing device attached to the wrist band and including:
- one or more motion sensors configured to measure swing motion;
- a first circuit in communication with the one or more motion sensors, the first circuit being configured to translate measurements of swing motion to motion data, identify from the motion data a golf shot in which a golf club held by a golfer contacts a golf ball, and distinguish the golf shot from a practice swing that does not contact the golf ball;
- a second circuit configured to increment a golf score of the golfer responsive to the golf shot being identified and maintain a golf score of the golfer responsive to a practice swing being identified;
- and
- a display configured to visually present the golf score.
