Abstract
Methods and apparatus for a providing information to a core network where a terminal exchanges data with a cache in an access network. The node stores data in the cache. Data is exchanged between the cache and the terminal, and information relating to the exchanged data is provided to the core network. This allows the core network to apply normal core network functions such as LI, charging and policy control, even when the data does not pass through the core network.
Claims16
A method of providing information to a core network where a terminal exchanges data with a cache located in a node in an access network, the method comprising, at the node:
- storing data in the cache;
- establishing a first user-plane tunnel between the cache and the terminal;
- establishing a second user-plane tunnel between the cache and the core network, wherein the second user plane tunnel is provided for sending the information identifying the data stored in the cache exchanged between the terminal and the cache;
- exchanging the stored data between the cache and the terminal through the first user-plane tunnel;
- and
- providing the information identifying the exchanged stored data to the core network through the second user-plane tunnel.
An access network node, the access network node comprising:
- a cache arranged to store data;
- an interface arranged to allow the exchange of the stored data between the cache and the terminal;
- and
- a further interface for providing information identifying the stored data exchanged between the cache and the terminal to a core network;
- and
- a processor that establishes a first user-plane tunnel between the cache and the terminal, establishes a second user-plane tunnel between the cache and the core network and which is provided for sending the information the information identifying the data stored in the cache exchanged between the terminal and the cache, exchanges the stored data between the cache and the terminal through the first user-plane tunnel, and provides the information identifying the exchanged stored data to the core network through the second user-plane tunnel.
A computer program product for providing information to a core network where a terminal exchanges data with a cache located in a node in an access network, the computer program product comprising:
- a non-transitory computer readable medium storing program instructions that are executable by a processor of the node in the access network to perform operations comprising:
- storing data in the cache;
- establishing a first user-plane tunnel between the cache and the terminal;
- establishing a second user-plane tunnel between the cache and the core network, wherein the second user plane tunnel is provided for sending the information identifying the exchanged data stored in the cache exchanged between the terminal and the cache;
- exchanging the stored data between the cache and the terminal through the first user-plane tunnel;
- and
- providing the information identifying the exchanged stored data to the core network through the second user-plane tunnel.
