Method and apparatus of establishing computer network monitoring criteria

An apparatus, comprising:

• a processor configured to:
• monitor at least one computer based on initial monitor counter values and based on data collector settings indicating an amount of time to monitor and collect operating conditions of the at least one computer;
• execute an automatic learning procedure that calculates override monitor counter values during monitoring of the at least one computer based on the initial monitor counter values;
• assign at least one new threshold to at least one of the initial monitor counter values, wherein the at least one new threshold is determined based on an average usage value measured over a predetermined period of time for the at least one of the initial monitor counter values, wherein the at least one new threshold further comprises an increase to a previous threshold value by a predetermined percentage basis;
• create a new monitor set comprising the at least one new threshold value based on the calculated override monitor counter values;
• replace the initial monitor counter values with the calculated override monitor counter values by automatically overriding the initial monitor counter values with the new monitor set;
• and
• monitor the at least one computer based on the override monitor counter values.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising instructions that when executed cause a processor to perform:

• monitoring at least one computer based on initial monitor counter values and based on data collector settings indicating an amount of time to monitor and collect operating conditions of the at least one computer;
• executing an automatic learning procedure that calculates override monitor counter values during monitoring of the at least one computer based on the initial monitor counter values;
• assigning at least one new threshold to at least one of the initial monitor counter values, wherein the at least one new threshold is determined based on an average usage value measured over a predetermined period of time for the at least one of the initial monitor counter values, wherein the at least one new threshold further comprises an increase to a previous threshold value by a predetermined percentage basis;
• creating a new monitor set comprising at least one new threshold value based on the calculated override monitor counter values;
• replacing the initial monitor counter values with the calculated override monitor counter values by automatically overriding the initial monitor counter values with the new monitor set;
• and
• monitoring the at least one computer based on the override monitor counter values.
