Preparation and in vitro and in vivo characterization of novel forms of active pharmaceutical ingredients, suitable for pharmaceutical compositions in drug delivery systems for humans.

A pharmaceutical composition comprising a crystalline molecular complex comprising zoledronic acid, sodium zoledronate, and water and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient,
- wherein the crystalline molecular complex is characterized by a powder x-ray diffraction pattern having peaks at about 8.1, 13.3, 21.5, 24.6, and 25.6±0.2 degrees two-theta, a powder x-ray diffraction pattern as shown in FIG. 1, or a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy pattern as shown in FIG. 2.
