Abstract
The disclosure relates to a selectively and concurrently implementable multi-probe microdrive apparatus. Specifically, the disclosure relates to an apparatus configured to selectively and reversibly couple and/or decouple at least one holder to, and/or from an actuator independently, wherein the actuator is configured for controllably and concurrently move any coupled holder. The holder adapted to have a stimulating and/or recording electrode coupled thereon.
Claims20
A drive device for contacting a plurality of probes with a biological tissue sample, the device comprising:
- a. a plurality of holders, each holder operably coupled to at least one probe having a predetermined function;
- and
- b. a plurality of selectors, each selector coupled to one of the holders, configured to selectively and reversibly couple and/or decouple the holder to, and/or from a single actuator independently, wherein, the single in actuator is configured for controllably and concurrently move two or more holders coupled to the single actuator along the single actuator's longitudinal axis.
A method for contacting a plurality of probes with a biological tissue sample comprising:
- a. exposing the biological tissue sample;
- b. providing a device comprising:
- i. a plurality of holders, each holder operably coupled to at least one probe having a predetermined function;
- and
- ii. a plurality of selectors, each selector coupled to one of the holders, configured to selectively and reversibly couple and/or decouple the holder to, and/or from a single actuator independently, wherein, said actuator is configured for controllably and concurrently move two or more coupled holders along the single actuator's longitudinal axis;
- c. positioning the device such that two or more probes of the holders coupled to the single actuator will contact an area of interest in the biological tissue sample;
- d. coupling at least two holders to the single actuator;
- e. activating the single actuator;
- f. contacting the biological sample;
- and
- g. decoupling at least two holders from the single actuator.
