Synbiotic mixture

A method for treatment of an infection of the upper respiratory tract comprising the step of administering to an individual having the infection of the upper respiratory tract a composition comprising a probiotic bacterial strain and a prebiotic mixture comprising

• a) 5-70 wt % of at least one N-acetylated oligosaccharide selected from the group consisting of GalNAcα1-3Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6GalNacα1-3Galβ1-4Glc and combinations thereof,
• b) 20-90 wt % of at least one neutral oligosaccharide selected from the group consisting of Galβ1-6Gal, Galβ1-6Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6Galβ1-6Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-3Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6Galβ1-6Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6Galβ1-3Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-6Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-3Galβ1-4Glc and combinations thereof and
• c) 5-50 wt % of at least one sialylated oligosaccharide selected from the group consisting of NeuAcα2-3Galβ1-4Glc, NeuAcα2-6Galβ1-4Glc and combinations thereof.

A method for establishing a bifidogenic intestinal microbiota and/or increasing the metabolic activity of such bifidogenic intestinal microbiota comprising the steps of administering to an individual in need thereof a composition comprising a probiotic bacterial strain and a prebiotic mixture comprising

• a) 5-70 wt % of at least one N-acetylated oligosaccharide selected from the group consisting of GalNAcα1-3Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6GalNacα1-3Galβ1-4Glc and combinations thereof,
• b) 20-90 wt % of at least one neutral oligosaccharide selected from the group consisting of Galβ1-6Gal, Galβ1-6Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6Galβ1-6Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-3Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6Galβ1-6Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6Galβ1-3Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-6Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-3Galβ1-4Glc and combinations thereof and
• c) 5-50 wt % of at least one sialylated oligosaccharide selected from the group consisting of NeuAcα2-3Galβ1-4Glc, NeuAcα2-6Galβ1-4Glc and combinations thereof.

A method for treatment of a pathogenic infection of the gastro-intestinal tract comprising the step of administering to an individual having the pathogenic infection of the gastro-intestinal tract a composition comprising a probiotic bacterial strain and a prebiotic mixture comprising

• a) 5-70 wt % of at least one N-acetylated oligosaccharide selected from the group consisting of GalNAcα1-3Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6GalNacα1-3Galβ1-4Glc and combinations thereof,
• b) 20-90 wt % of at least one neutral oligosaccharide selected from the group consisting of Galβ1-6Gal, Galβ1-6Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6Galβ1-6Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-3Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6Galβ1-6Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-6Galβ1-3Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-6Galβ1-4Glc, Galβ1-3Galβ1-3Galβ1-4Glc and combinations thereof and
• c) 5-50 wt % of at least one sialylated oligosaccharide selected from the group consisting of NeuAcα2-3Galβ1-4Glc, NeuAcα2-6Galβ1-4Glc and combinations thereof.
