Abstract
The present invention relates to an improved gelatinous coated dosage form having two end regions coated with gelatinous materials and an exposed circumferential band. Openings are provided in at least the exposed band to reveal the core material. The invention also relates to methods for manufacturing such gelatinous coated dosage forms.
Claims15
An elongated dosage form comprising:
- a) an elongated core having an exterior surface and first and second ends, wherein the elongated core comprises one or more active ingredients, cellulose or a derivative of cellulose, pregelatinized starch, and magnesium stearate;
- b) a first gelatinous coating over at least part of the elongated core;
- and
- c) a second gelatinous coating over at least part of the elongated core;
- wherein the first and second gelatinous coatings are provided on the first and second ends of the elongated core;
- wherein the first and second gelatinous coatings do not touch or overlap one another;
- wherein the first and second gelatinous coatings form a gap through which the elongated core is exposed, wherein the gap has a width of greater than 7% to about 25% of a length of the elongated core;
- wherein the first and second gelatinous coatings each comprise gelatin;
- wherein the dosage form does not contain a subcoating on the core;
- wherein the dosage form allows for dissolution of the one or more active ingredients following an immediate release profile for dosage forms containing that particular active ingredient;
- and
- wherein the gap does not effect the swallowablity of the dosage form;
- wherein said dosage form is substantially free of visible bubble defects.
