Abstract
The present invention relates to formulations made up from extracts from Ganoderma lucidum, rhizome of Coptis chinensis, Radix astragali, Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn, Chaenomeles speciosa, and Fructus Aurantii. Pursuant to the invention, the formulations are used to treat obesity and the biological sequelae of obesity including cholesterol levels and glucose levels. While not limited to any particular mechanism of action the formulations may assert their effects by altering gene expression, in particular, the expression of PPARγ, FABP4, CPT1, UCP2, and AMPK.

A method for decreasing body weight in a subject in need thereof comprising the steps of administering a pharmacologically effective dose of a formulation comprising extracts of Ganoderma lucidum, rhizome of Coptis chinensis, Radix astragali, Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn, and Fructus Aurantii.
A method for affecting biological sequelae of obesity in a subject in need thereof comprising the steps of administering to the subject a pharmacologically effective dose of a formulation comprising extracts of Ganoderma lucidum, rhizome of Coptis chinensis, Radix astragali, Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn, and Fructus Aurantii.
A method for affecting gene expression associated with obesity in a subject in need thereof comprising the steps of administering to the subject a pharmacologically effective dose of a formulation comprising extracts of Ganoderma lucidum, rhizome of Coptis chinensis, Radix astragali, Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn, and Fructus Aurantii.
