Abstract
A method of differentially tuning a lower limb muscle in a human in need thereof is provided. The method includes placement of at least two calibrated, differential disturbances or protuberances under the human's feet thereby tuning a lower limb muscle.
Claims23
A method of tuning a lower limb skeletal muscle in a subject in need thereof comprising the steps of:
- (a) securing a device to a subject's foot, whereby said device comprises a foot securing means, a support member operably attached to said securing means;
- an outsole;
- and a moveable anterior protuberance and a moveable posterior protuberance, wherein said moveable anterior protuberance and said moveable posterior protuberance are moveable along an outer surface of said outsole within an area of 1 cm2 to 18 cm2;
- (b) changing the center of pressure (COP) with which the foot contacts the ground by moving said posterior protuberance and said anterior protuberance, wherein said changing the COP is:
- (1) changing the COP in a direction away from the anatomical location of the lower limb skeletal muscle results in increasing the lower limb skeletal muscle activity;
- or (2) changing the COP in a direction closer to the anatomical position of the lower limb skeletal muscle results in reducing the lower limb skeletal muscle activity;
- and
- (c) fixing said moveable posterior protuberance and said moveable anterior protuberance to said support member in a fixed position, thereby tuning a lower limb skeletal muscle in a subject in need thereof.
A method of preventing injuries in a subject susceptible for lower limb joint pathology or lower limb musculoskeletal pathology comprising the step of tuning a lower limb skeletal muscle in said subject, wherein said tuning a lower limb skeletal muscle comprises the steps of:
- (a) securing a device to a subject's foot, whereby said device comprises a foot securing means, a support member operably attached to said securing means;
- an outsole;
- and a moveable anterior protuberance and a moveable posterior protuberance, wherein said moveable anterior protuberance and said moveable posterior protuberance are moveable along an outer surface of said outsole within an area of 1 cm2 to 18 cm2;
- (b) changing the center of pressure (COP) with which the foot contacts the ground by moving said posterior protuberance and said anterior protuberance, wherein said changing the COP is:
- (1) changing the COP in a direction away from the anatomical location of the lower limb skeletal muscle results in increasing the lower limb skeletal muscle activity;
- or (2) changing the COP in a direction closer to the anatomical position of the lower limb skeletal muscle results in reducing the lower limb skeletal muscle activity;
- and
- (c) fixing said moveable posterior protuberance and said moveable anterior protuberance to said support member in a fixed position, thereby preventing injuries in a subject susceptible for lower limb joint pathology or lower limb musculoskeletal pathology.
