Abstract
Provided are valencene synthase polypeptides, nucleic acid molecules encoding the valencene synthases, host cells containing the nucleic acids and methods for producing products whose production is catalyzed by the polypeptides. Also provided are methods for producing valencene and nootkatone.
Claims29
A nucleic acid molecule encoding a valencene synthase polypeptide, wherein:
- the valencene synthase polypeptide has at least 95% sequence identity to the sequence of amino acids set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 1;
- the encoded valencene synthase catalyzes the formation of valencene from an acyclic pyrophosphate terpene precursor;
- the nucleic acid molecule has at least 95% identity to SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- and
- the nucleic acid molecule is cDNA.

A vector, comprising a nucleic acid molecule that encodes a valencene synthase polypeptide, wherein:
- the valencene synthase polypeptide has at least 95% sequence identity to a valencene synthase polypeptide whose sequence is set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 1;
- the encoded valencene synthase catalyzes the formation of valencene from an acyclic pyrophosphate terpene precursor;
- the nucleic acid molecule has at least 95% identity to SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
